NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD)

The Programme:

This programme is designed to develop teachers who lead teacher development within their school.

The course will provide opportunities to learn about core research on how to design and deliver effective professional learning and explore examples of how to put these approaches into action.

This programme is for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading the development of teachers at all stages of their career in their school.

All applicants must have completed 2 full years teaching following achieving QTS/QTLS/Level 5 (or equivalent) qualification.

The programme aims to help you and your school by:

  • Supporting your professional development through evidence-informed seminars and workshops
  • Working alongside other local leaders of teacher development to support the development of evidence-informed peer learning
  • Supporting the effective diagnosis of professional development needs and ensuring professional development supports improving outcomes for all pupils
  • Increasing your confidence to lead teacher development effectively
  • Supporting the retention of our best teachers.

This is a 15-month programme involving 12 months’ delivery through seminar workshops and self-directed on-line learning and up to three months for assessment. The programme will give participants the essential knowledge, skills and concepts underpinning the successful leadership of teacher development. It will do so through exploring the following content modules based on the DfE’s NPQ frameworks:

  • Teaching
  • Designing effective professional development
  • Delivering effective professional development
  • Implementation

  • Evidence-based on-line content using Teach First materials exploring each of the content modules
  • Seminars providing you with an opportunity for peer learning and the consolidation of learning within each of the content modules
  • Two face-to-face conferences to provide further opportunity for peer learning combined with expert input from specialist practitioners.

The DfE have announced that NPQ funding from Autumn 2024 will now be targeted to those teachers and leaders working in the most challenging schools or educational settings, serving more disadvantaged communities.

Therefore, funding to cover the full NPQ cost will only be available to teachers and leaders from the 50% of schools with the highest proportion of students who attract pupil premium funding. Comparative disadvantage measures will be applied for 16-19 educational settings.

There are a limited number of funded spaces available.

If your school is not eligible for DfE scholarship funding, the cost for the NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD) is £899.
