The National Professional Qualifications are designed to support four levels of professional development for current and aspiring school leaders.

Each programme covers the six core areas of learning:

Strategy and Improvement

Teaching and Curriculum Excellence

Working in Partnership

Leading with Impact

Managing Resources and Risks

Increasing Capability

All four programmes are delivered through a combination of face-to-face days and facilitated online learning courses and are run by accredited facilitators and experienced senior leaders / headteachers from primary, secondary and special schools.

See individual programme outlines for further details.

The DfE has accredited 40 providers to design, deliver and assess the National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) against a national quality framework.

The framework is available to download here together with the latest report on STSN’s performance against the 7 recruitment, assessment, achievement and retention metrics. This report is independently produced by Tribal, the DfE’s quality assurance agent.
